Drivers need to have specific equipment to be able to operate a flatbed truck. There are many different types of trailers that require various equipment, but there are five basic things that every driver needs. 1. Tarps
According to Hales Trailer, tarps are a vital piece of equipment for flatbed drivers. Tarps are used to cover cargo loads and protect them while being transported on the back of a truck.
Without tarps, any rain or debris that comes into contact with the load could cause damage to goods in transit. Drivers should always have several different tarps available always to be prepared for any weather or transit condition.
While most drivers use tarps, some use netting instead to save on costs and maintenance time. Netting is used the same way as a tarp; it covers cargo loads while transported across long distances by truck.
2. Straps
Drivers can use tie-downs and cargo straps to secure their load during transit. According to Hales Trailer, cargo straps are an essential piece of equipment that every driver should keep in his truck at all times.
Cargo strap tensioners hold the cargo tightly against a trailer bed or other surface so that it does not slip around while being transported. 3. D-Rings

4. Flatbed Semi-trailers

5. Tire Chains
Drivers need to have tire chains on their flatbed trucks when driving in mountain regions. According to Hale Trailer, drivers who often travel through mountainous terrain should keep tire chains in the truck at all times because they can be used if a driver encounters heavy snow or ice that has accumulated on the roadways and made them dangerous for driving.
