Recover Brother Printer Default Password

There are many reasons for changing the printer password. In case you have forgotten your Brother Printer password, it is easy to recover it using the default passwords. The process of resetting a lost or forgotten passcode on a Brother laser printer involves accessing its built-in memory and deleting the old one, which will result in all settings being canceled and the device returning to its default state. The recovery process takes only a few minutes.

In case you have forgotten your Brother Printer password, it is easy to recover it using the default passwords as shown below:

For Windows users:

1) Press “Windows” + “R” keys. Type “CMD” in the dialogue box and hit Enter.

2) In the opened command promt, type “cd\”.

3) Type “cd system32\drivers\etc” and hit Enter.

4) Locate the file named “host” or “AUTOEXEC.BAT”. If it exists, delete it otherwise skip to step 6.

5) Type “notepad host” and press Enter.

6) Delete everything in the file and copy/paste the following lines at its bottom:

127.0.0.1 localhost

::1 localhost

7) Save the changes made to the file by pressing “Ctrl + S”. Close Notepad when done.

8) Type “ipconfig /flushdns” and press Enter.

9) Reboot your computer.

10) When the computer boots up, repeat steps 1 through 6 above.

11) Press “Ctrl + F”. Type “admin” in both boxes where prompted, hit Enter twice to access the web-based interface.

12) Type “admin” as both the username and password. The default admin account should now appear on your screen for you to set a new passcode of your choice.

13) Type new password twice in the boxes provided, hit Enter. Then type it again below just to verify that you have typed it correctly, press Enter again.

14) Now, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process of setting a new passcode for your Brother Printer device.

For Mac users:

1) Open “Terminal” from Utilities folder inside Applications folder. Type “cd /etc/” and press Enter. If you do not find “cd /etc”, you need to change the directory name accordingly.

2) Type “ls” and press Enter. Note that this command display all files present in the current folder, including hidden ones (those preceded by a dot (.)). If the file named “hosts” or “AUTOEXEC.BAT” is found, then skip steps 3 to 6. If the file is not there, proceed to step 3.

3) Type “open /etc/hosts” and press Enter.

4) Using the text editor (for example, TextEdit), open the file named “hosts”. Delete everything in it and copy/paste the following lines at its bottom:

127.0.0.1 localhost

::1 localhost

5) Save the changes made to the file, close it and go back to Terminal (from step 2). Type “cd ../” and press Enter. This will take you one directory up.

6) Type “cd etc/” and press Enter.

7) Type “ls” and press Enter. This command display the list of files present in the current directory. If you find “hosts” or “AUTOEXEC.BAT”, then skip step 8. If you do not find them, go to step 8.

8) Type “open hosts” and press Enter. Delete everything in the file and copy/paste the following lines at its bottom:

127.0.0.1 localhost

::1 localhost

9) Save the changes made to the file, close it and reboot your computer/printer.

10) When your computer boots up, repeat steps 1-7 above. If you find “hosts” or “AUTOEXEC.BAT”, then proceed to step 11. If you do not find them, go to step 12.

11) Type “open hosts” and press Enter. Delete everything in the file and copy/paste the following lines at its bottom:

127.0.0.1 localhost

::1 localhost

12) Save the changes made to the file and close it. pointclickcarecna

13) Reboot your computer/printer and try printing anything. You should not encounter any problem while printing since you have successfully reset the passcode on your Brother Printer device.

For Linux users:

1) Open Terminal (from Applications > Utilities). Type “passwd” and press Enter.

2) When prompted to change the passcode for root user, type “y” and press Enter. Then, type in your new passcode twice in the boxes provided and hit Enter after each entry. Type in a new passcode again in the second box to verify that you have typed it correctly then hit Enter once more.

3) Reboot your computer/printer.

4) When your computer boots up, repeat steps 1 through 3 above. Type in “passwd” and press Enter. Then go through the same process again by typing in a new passcode for root user twice and verifying it once more after each entry. Follow these steps to set a new passcode for your Brother Printer device.

For Windows users:

1) Open “My Computer” and navigate to the following path: “C:\Windows\System32”. Note that if you cannot see the words “System32”, just type them in the empty box under “location” and hit Enter.

2) Look for a file named “hosts”. Make sure that you open the correct hosts (file) and not any other files with a similar name.

3) When you find it, right-click on it and hit Rename. Now rename this file as “hosts.bak” or anything else except for its original name.

4) Reboot your computer/printer.

5) When your computer boots up, repeat steps 1 through 3 above. Once you have found the same file but this time with its original name, save it back by selecting “Yes” when prompted to overwrite the existing file or by pressing Ctrl+S on your keyboard. The default location for saving is usually “C:\Windows\System32”.

6) Reboot your computer/printer.

7) When your computer boots up, go to the following path: “C:\Windows\System32”. Type “notepad hosts” and press Enter. Delete everything in this file then copy/paste the following lines at its bottom:

127.0.0.1 localhost

::1 localhost

8) Save the changes made to the file and close it.

9) Reboot your computer/printer and try printing anything. You should not encounter any problem while printing since you have successfully reset the passcode on your Brother Printer device.
