Considerations To Bear In Mind Before Undergoing Breast Augmentation

Are you unsatisfied with how your breasts look? You might have thought of breast augmentation in Sydney.

Did you know that there have been around 20,000 breast augmentations in Australia in 2020? The number of breast augmentation surgeries has increased rapidly since then.

Sydney is the capital of New South Wales in Australia, with over 2.4 million females. Many of them are often dissatisfied with the way their breasts look. So, they have breast augmentation in Sydney available for all the services to them.

Plus, while not covered by Medicare, breast implants in Sydney cost between $6000 and $12000 only.

While not being satisfied with your breasts is one reason to get breast augmentation, you need to consider several things before undergoing major surgery. So, read this article to know what you need to bear in mind.

Consider these Factors Before Undergoing a Breast Augmentation

Before undergoing breast implantation or augmentation, you need to consider the following:

Choose the Right Doctor

Before you think of undergoing any breast augmentation, you need to choose the right doctor. You need to select a board-certified plastic surgeon with legal and recognised practice.

You might want to check reviews of multiple doctors and check their experience in this surgery. Also, ensure the surgeon’s cosmetic style matches your goals. Plus, your surgeon should be transparent about risks, costs, fees, and processes.

Moreover, it would help if you were comfortable at the clinic, and the staff should be friendly and professional.

Choose the Right Implants

There are three types of breast implants you can choose from. You should consult your doctor and choose the one with which you will feel comfortable and confident. Here are the three types of breast implants:

  • Saline implants: These implants contain a sterile saline solution held inside a silicone shell. The implants can have a different amount of saline solution, which will affect the firmness, feel, and form of the breast.
  • Silicone gel-filled implants: These are silicone outer shells that contain silicone gel. If silicone gel implants leak, the gel will stay inside the shell or leak into the implant pocket. These implants require regular checkups compared to saline implants.
  • Alternative Composite Implants: Implants with polypropylene string, soy oil, or other material.

Understand What Happens During Surgery

After choosing your surgeon and the implants, you need to know what to expect during surgery. You need to select the right size of implants and then understand that general anesthesia or local anesthesia is used. In general anesthesia, you are sedated, and in local anesthesia, you are awake.

Then there are incisions made to insert and place the implant. There is an Inframammary (under the breast crease) incision, Transaxillary (in the armpit) incision, or a Periareolar (around the nipple) incision. You choose the incision based on your anatomy, type of implant, and your surgeon’s advice.

After the incision, the implant is inserted and placed, and the closing incisions are done.

Know What the Recovery Will Be like

You also need to understand the recovery period and what you need to take care of after the surgery. Your doctor will advise you. The recovery period will generally vary person-to-person. However, for an average person, it takes 4-6 weeks.

Ensure your surgeon apprises you regarding follow-ups, breast care, prescriptions, the right compression garments to wear and other care.

Understand the Risks

Any surgery has risks, so does breast augmentation. So, if you suffer from fever, redness in the breast area, chest pain, shortness of breath, or distress after the surgery, consult your doctor immediately.

Plus, you need to know that these implants are not for a lifetime, and you need to get them back at the right time.
